Shoulder Rotator Cuff

Understand Shoulder Rotator Cuff, Strengthen Your Shoulder with Rotator Cuff Therapy and Treatment

Shoulder Rotaor Cuff

The shoulder rotator cuff refers to a set of four muscles. The rotator cuff muscles are part of the shoulder blade and meant to protect your shoulder. The shoulder is protected by the rotor cuff and the tendons that act to prevent injuries. One of the reasons this set of muscles is called the rotator cuff is because the way they operate allows a person to move their arm in different directions. One of the problems when people get older is that the rotator cuff itself is often subject to injury.

One or more of the four muscles that go to make up the rotator cuff are more likely to be injured when a person plays some sports and injury often occurs when sports people and athletes don’t exercise and warm up the muscles before playing strenuous games such as cricket or golf, which means the muscles are subjected to unnecessary pressure. A damaged rotor cuff can be avoided by doing exercises that stretch the muscles and make them ready for any strenuous activities such as sport.

The shoulder rotator cuff can be stressed and damaged if there something traumatic occurs in that area, for example, something like a heavy fall can result in injury to these muscles. This may cause damage, which the person feels at the time, but chooses to ignore it; when this happens it can lead to more damage and greater pain.

The symptoms of an injured rotator cuff are not always apparent because some injuries develop over time. A person will be in a great deal of pain if their rotator cuff is stressed in this way. Over time repetitive stress on this group of muscles can mean that the person is in so much pain that it does not respond to pain killing medication

A shoulder rotator cuff injury puts extra stress on the shoulders, which can result in a great deal of pain, people who suffer a lot of pain in their shoulders often have a history of injuries to that area of the body. Many rotator cuff injuries go unchecked for a long time because people often ignore warning signs as pain in the rotor cuff may go in cycles. Although a person may not be in constant pain from a rotator cuff injury, each time the pain returns it is more severe than it was before. If the strain and discomfort in that area carries on for some time then it is possible for the person to lose flexibility in that area.

When you try to engage in strenuous activity with a lack of flexibility it is all too easy to tear the muscles.  When the damage is left and not seen to, it can make that area of the body age more quickly than it should and this results in lowered strength and flexibility However, it is possible to reverse the damage done to a rotor cuff as there are a series of exercises that are designed to bring strength back into that area.

What amount should I settle for a torn rotator cuff?

The insurance company offered me $200. I think that’s ridiculous. I did not have surgery or an MRI. An MRI alone would cost over $200. My symptoms lasted several months. I think** I’m ok now, about a year later but I don’t do any strenous activity with that arm.

About 4 months after the accident, I tried to start my lawn mower and I believe I re-injured my arm by doing so. I didn’t tell anyone for fear that would nullify my claim.

I’m don’t believe I should sue or get a lot of $$$, but, I think the fact that I couldn’t do normal activities for a few months (pick up my daughter, start the mower, etc.) is worth more than $200.

The insurance co. paid $3600 to repair my car. This was a low speed (about 30mph), head on collision.

Another part of my question would be, how do I tell them what I think I deserve? I’ve been avoiding the adjuster for about 6 months now. I just don’t pick up the phone since the $200 offer

You should call an "injury" attorney. They will talk to you free and handle your case on a percentage basis. They will tell you if the offer is high enough. Dont try to negotiate with the insurance company on your own.

How long will it take to reapir a rotator cuff sparain in 2 major parts of it?

My high school trainer says all’s it needs is rest ( which i don’t believe ) but wont give a certain time for the reapir. i would like to repair it so i can stop missing season. If there are any treatments , i shall gladly accept them. thanks

Well you may need an MRI to make sure you arent dealing with a rotator cuff tear…shoulder strains can take anywhere from 2-8wks to get better. I would do ice daily x 20mins,followed by heat x10mins…try and get some bio-freeze gel.Take advil per label if you can,Do range of motion exercises. If not better in 4 wks see and orthopedist

My doctor is now saying that in order to have a full recover that we are going to have to do surgery. What is the average cost of a rotator cuff repair including hospital fees, doctors fees, and rehab?

Is it normal to still have pain 6 years after having rotator cuff surgery?

About 6 years ago I had rotator cuff surgery. My shoulder still hurts and I have proplems doing overhead work. Is this normal? I have seen 2 orthopedic surgeons, a pain management specialist, 2 chiropractors, and a physiologist. I also went through the necessary physical therapy as reccommended by the orthopedic surgeon who performed the surgery.

Yes as the median. I had it almost 4 years ago and can not lift my arm above my head without it popping out and extreme pain!
I have been told that the DR. took the conservative approach. I guess so because my MRI’s after surgery say that there is still massive injury. I have yet to speak to a patient that does not suffer from some sort of pain! Surgery is an answer but i personally am waiting to see what they come out with and just use pain management ,heat and ice as well as an antinflammatory ( ibuprofen) exercise was told to me to work if you do it slowly and 1st without weights. god luck i wish you better luck than i have had. you could have also re injured it get an MRI.

rotator cuff injury???

ok so ive had a problem with my rotator cuff for a while, injured it lifting weights been doing some exercises and its been working ok. just wondering if glucosamine would help it or am i just wasting my money? also anyone know how long i should do these rotator cuff exercises b4 going bk to weights? thanks.

you are wasting your money just stick to the exercises for a month or two then take it slow with the weight lifting

Does anyone know how to stop withdrawal symptoms from Vicodin?

I am trying to make it through work, but I haven’t been able to work or sleep more than an hour a night for 3 nights because I have a horrible tickling, jumping sensation in my rotator cuff of my shoulder that will not stop. It is the most horrible sensation I have ever felt and it goes on all day and night

You should be through the worst within a week or so, but you could have some symptoms for 2 to 3 weeks. Your prescriber should have weened you off it gradually that would have minimized the withdraw effects.
Really there is not much that you can do except endure them. Maybe try some benadryl at bedtime to help with the sleep issue and some Tylenol for the other symptoms. Good luck

If you have had a torn rotator cuff, what treatment did you receive?

I had the surgery. I was terrified but they give you this anti anxiety thing that makes everything very La la. Could’ve used it the whole three weeks prior, but they’re weird like that.

Get the block. It’s a post-anesthesia thing. Trust me.

I have a tricky stomach and narcotics make me sick but I had vistril and zofran and that worked great. I was nervous that bathroom trips would be a nightmare (I am painfully right handed) but hey the joke was on me because you can’t chit on oxycodone so it was a non-issue. Someone told me to sleep in a recliner for the first week or two and that was great advice.

The surgery went well. It’s a painful recovery but I survived. I felt great for a year, it was nice to be able to put on my own deodorant again, but now I have more spurs. I will have to do this again in another year or two.

I’m in my third month post rotator cuff surgery. Just started Physical Therapy…how long before?

How long before its healed enough to lift weights again?

One ligament was torn almost all the way and one had a hole in the middle from a bone spur. They tried the arthroscope and then cut me open because of the damage, 5 1/2 hour surgery. So I’ve been in that foam sling for 9 weeks! And a regular sling for 3 weeks.

I’ve went from 18 1/2 inch arms to 15 1/2 inches in 8 months I’M SHRINKING!

But I’ve been good, following the Dr advice. Going to PT.

How long before I can safely start to lift light weights?

The wait is killing me! My aggression is building!

Most likely, you will be unable able to reach overhead for up to 5-6 months. Full recovery really takes about 1 year to 18 months. Yet, as long as biceps tendon didn’t need to be repaired, you may be able to resume biceps curls, tricep extensions, rowing, etc at this time. Your surgery should not have affected these…but PLEAE disucss with your surgeon because he/she is the only one who really saw what was damaged and repaired and the intergirty of the anchors. As far as completing other lifts…lateral raises, etc…it may be a full year-year and a half if you can perform these with sometime more than a 2-5 pound weight.

Shoulder pain around rotator cuff (not a tear)?

Whenever I sit by table and put my hand on the table, or start typing, I feel a strong pain on my shoulder around rotator cuff. MRI didnt show any tear in there and I am still dealing with this pain for over 2 years. Any suggestions what it might be from?
